Almost every year, we make Christmas projects for our friends and family. The projects are very much geared toward the age of the child (I have a 17 year old daughter and a 3 year old son). I also try to get a project or several accomplished each year. We have done a variety of projects over the years. These projects are one of my favorite holiday activities each year.
One year, my daughter and I made container candles. We mixed our own scents and create a variety of colors and layers. It was so much fun. We have also made coasters out of Christmas cards and photographs. One of my first projects with my daughter was painting glass Christmas ornaments. My son’s first project was negative painting (I taped down pictures and handed him a brush and paint, then removed the taped down shapes to create Christmas Trees, snowmen, and angels).
Recently, I have been looking on Pinterest to figure out what we are going to do this year. We like to incorporate photographs, whenever possible, into the projects. We include family portraits in our Christmas cards and letters, but there is just something so special about having the photographs involved in the project. Check out this Pinterest board for holiday project ideas. (Feel free to send me any other good ideas that you find.) I have finally decided what we are going to do this year; now I just have to get on the doing. I can’t wait to get started and the children should both enjoy the project.
Every year, I say that we are going to start our projects early, and every year, it is the end of October and I am scrambling to make sure we have time to finish. Happy crafting! Please share your photographs, projects, and ideas in the comments.
